Test Sony MDR-ZX 660: efficient and cheap headphones

The head of surprise

Affordable headset, but do not overlook the quality, that's what Sony wants to offer with the new MDR-ZX660AP model. This is a brand new model, compatible smartphone, which boasts Sony including "power, deep percussion and clear treble. "He also has a new design, including a rigid metallic headband and a flat cord that prevents the formation of knots. What about in real life? Answer.

At first glance, the Sony MDR-ZX660AP smells good quality. The packaging is convincing, and lets see a compact headset, modern design, although some plastics are a little cheap. Once extirpated from its box, headset confirms this good first visual impression, with a very nice touch and a certain lightness as the guy shows less than 200 grams on the scale. The design of the arch is good, with a small contingency padding on top. It is relatively far from the ultra high-end design of some models, but the whole proves pleasing to the eye as to bear on the skull.

Headphones side, there are neodymium diaphragm 40mm, with the passage of the presence Beat Response Control technology whose mission is to reduce the distortion dynamic bass. Once fitted helmet at our convenience, it is time to launch our first song. The pads of the supra-aural headphones are well padded, but a tad small, which may interfere in some. Some pieces are enough to reveal the potential of the latest addition to Sony, which delivers sound of excellent quality despite its "entry". The bass is very present, without overdoing it, and the sound is surprisingly clear, regardless of the genre. Again, it is not just tickle the high end headphones, but the result is more than satisfactory for those who wish to benefit from an affordable headset to be used every day at home and in transport. Note insulation that is not optimal (supra aural headphones requires), and high-volume, your neighbors might enjoy (or suffer) of the music played in your ears.

In use, the Sony MDR-ZX660AP is very pleasant to use, although some certainly regret a little short cable (1.2 meters), including those who wish to connect to a TV or PC. Recall, however, that this is a model dedicated to smartphones, and it is usually found in a pocket or backpack, the cable length then being impeccable. In fact, the Sony headset has a 3.5mm input L, gold-plated, with a small remote grafted to the cable. The latter has a single button for taking or ending a call (but also to put a piece in pause or skip to the next via a double click), as well as a multidirectional microphone. Aside from a quick start guide, Sony offers no accessory with its ZX660 AP: no carrying case, therefore, no spare cable, nor 6.35mm adapter ...

The Sony MDR-ZX 660 AP in brief:

  •  Supra Aural Headphones
  •  Diaphragm: 40 mm
  •  Impedance: 40 Ohm
  •  Frequency response: 5 - 25,000 Hz
  •  Sensitivity: 104 dBmW
  •  Flat-sided cable
  •  3.5mm jack L, gold-plated
  •  Remote Control button, multidirectional microphone

verdict

Great surprise therefore that headphones Sony MDR-ZX660AP proposed only 68 euros in the manufacturer's shop. Dedicated to be connected to a smartphone, it allows to enjoy his favorite music with a very balanced sound rendering. Design, despite a little cheap plastic is of high quality and we only regret headphones a tad small, which may disturb those who have opted for XXL ears at birth. An excellent price / quality ratio, then, and headphones available in 6 colors to suit everyone. Perfect to enjoy music in the beautiful days arrive.
